I try to visit Meerkirk Garden every couple years, incorporating it into my attending a workshop at Coupeville Art Center. This time I took a couple days to do the workshop of Alan Ross.

After visiting Fort Casey (for the umpteenth time), and a state park to the north, Ross asked for suggestions for a quick trip. I think those who enjoyed flowers, trees and ferns got a kick out of the garden. The cost for entry has risen from the buck we used to pay. The Garden continues to grow, though it remains one of the best kept secrets in the Puget Sound.

What I especially like is the ability to pay and go in early in the morning, at sunrise and before winds from the surrounding water make the leaves vibrate.

The Garden is located on the south end of Whidbey Island, west of Everett and northwest of Seattle.
